Done printing!

Today, I printed the last plate on the last remaining print. I'm done printing! It feels like I've reached a milestone after working on this project for 14 months. Each of my prints has between 10-20 individual printing plates printed in layers. Admittedly, some of the plates were quite small, but it involved a lot of layering nonetheless. I am very happy how the prints turned out. I can't wait to get the custom museum cases I ordered that will hold the finished artist book.

My final print!

I'm done printing! It feels strange to be done, but then again, there is still a lot more to be done. I still have to mount the prints, do some curating and signing of all prints. I still have to get a few more pages of the Spanish version to the text designers and get all the text pages printed digitally. I'm still waiting to receive the museum cases for the artist's books.

Here is a close-up of my final print, Re-Membering. This piece is about a tentative look at the future and how colonial relationships might be reconsidered. In this piece I play with the scale of the figures; I re-etched all the settler figures in a smaller scale to match the size of the indigenous figures, to portray a shifting of positions and power relations. I also added the figures of women and children, since it will take the engagement of all to move forward.

New Prints

I'm pretty much done printing my last two prints! I can't believe how long it took me to resolve these last two images, but I'm very happy how they turned out. Here is a proof of print eleven, (actually, print six in the series) that explores the dynamics of encounters between indigenous people and settlers.
